A message from Tamasin Ellis :
I and my sons, James and Thomas, have been so touched by the tributes and the generosity of everyone who has donated.
Sean would have been deeply moved by this tribute and we cannot thank you all enough and hope this helps the important research into this horrible disease.
Tamasin, James and Thomas
This site is a tribute to Sean Ellis. He was dedicated to his family, Tamasin, James and Thomas.
Sean was fiercely intelligent but also kind and approachable. He had a sharp sense of humour and was loved and respected by his friends and colleagues.
Sean studied Cybernetics and Computer Science at Reading University, graduating in 1987 with a 2:2.
Sean first came to the attention of many of us as an author of computer games in the 1980s, notably the Graphic Adventure Creator.
As part of Incentive software he worked on ground breaking games which evolved into the tool kits Freescape, 3D Construction Kit and later the Virtual Reality Toolkit (VRT).
Sean worked at the cutting edge of the early wave of Virtual Reality at Superscape, working on software that enabled a generation of coders and designers to build 3D worlds.
He moved to ARM in 2006 as a Consultant Graphics Engineer and later GPU architect.
Sean was politically active as a campaigner for the NHS Action Party and Anti-Brexit marches.
Sean was known for his involvement with the Hampshire Skeptics in Winchester, becoming its treasurer.
He was a frequent contributor to the multiple award winning Pod Delusion.
He will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues who's lives were better for having Sean touch them.
It wa so sad to find out yesterday that Sean had passed away. I worked with Sean when I was at Arm. He had an amazing gift to be able to present complex technical concepts in a way that anyone could understand. He showed kindness and empathy to everyone and I feel fortunate to have worked with him.
I am sorry for your loss - Sean was deservedly a much-respected colleague. I value the time I got to spend with him developing products, in discussions and on foreign business trips.
Shocked and saddened at Sean's untimely passing. Sean was a highly respected colleague from his time joining the ARM-Maidenhead office until my retirement in 2017. As stated elsewhere, a "lovely guy". Thoughts with the family at this difficult time.
